Yes, relationships can be complicated, messy and painful because people are complex, difficult and different from us.

Relationships can be also difficult because we often go into relationships with misguided and unrealistic expectations. We expect to get something from the relationship or, from that person, that isn’t available in relationship.

There are somethings that you will never be able to get from a person or a relationship – no matter how wonderful the person is or how healthy the relationship is.

They only way to get what we really need is in relationship with Abba Father through Jesus Christ. And if we develop a vibrant relationship with Jesus f1rst and we get from Him the necessities, then the dynamics of every other relationship in our life will drastically change – BECAUSE not only will He supply what we so desperately need, but He will also teach us how to live in relationship with people who are complex, difficult and different from us.

The first is wholeness.

The Truth is, only Jesus can complete you.

Colossians 2:9-10 (NLT) For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

The word ‘complete’ is the Greek word pléroó and it means wholeness, to be filled, to be fulfilled, to furnish, to supply, to be made complete.

Jesus makes us whole by furnishing – by supplying – the missing parts. He makes up what is lacking. He fills the void and the empty places. He completes us.

The second is identity.

The Truth is, your identity is only found in Jesus.

Acts 17:28 (NLT) For in Him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.’

The word ‘exist’ is the Greek word eimi and one of its meanings is originate.

Colossians 1:16 (NLT) for through Him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through Him and for Him.

Nobody knows us like the one who made us.
